Health

Southern Highlands Province in Papua New Guinea has a well-organized healthcare system overseen by the Southern Highlands Provincial Health Authority (SHPHA). The province provides a variety of health services, including hospitals, health centers, and rural aid posts. These facilities aim to improve healthcare access for residents, focusing on community well-being and ensuring essential medical care is available throughout the province.

Procurement Committee

The Provincial Procurement Committee (PPC) ensures that all government purchases and project contracts are handled fairly, transparently, and in line with national laws. It reviews tenders, approves contracts, and supports local businesses by promoting their participation in procurement processes. The committee also works to prevent corruption, ensuring that public funds are used efficiently and effectively to benefit local communities, support development, and improve services across the province.

SHP Acquittals Submission

The Southern Highlands Province Government has submitted its acquittals to the Department of Rural Development and Implementation. This includes reports showing how funds were spent on various rural development projects, ensuring transparency and accountability in the use of government resources for community improvements.

Investment in Policing

The Southern Highlands Government is prioritizing law and order by investing in police resources, infrastructure, and community policing initiatives. Strengthening law enforcement, addressing tribal conflicts, and promoting youth programs aim to restore peace and stability. These efforts foster economic growth, improve public safety, and enhance community trust in governance

Governor William Powi Attends Police Reservist Pass-Out Parade

Governor William Powi attended the police reservist pass-out parade in Mendi, Southern Highlands Province, to officially welcome 350 newly trained reservists into service. The event marked the completion of their training and the beginning of their role in supporting police operations across the province.

The reservists, selected from different districts, proudly marched in formation during the ceremony, which was attended by families, local leaders, and senior police officers. Governor Powi inspected the parade and congratulated the trainees for their discipline and dedication.

In his speech, the Governor emphasized the importance of law and order for development and peace. There are 50 reservists sent to the 5 districts and 100 will remain at the provincial Capital, Mendi.

“These reservists are now ready to serve and protect our communities,” he said. “With peace and safety, we can bring services and development to our people.”

Governor Powi thanked the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary and the Law and Justice Sector for their role in making the program successful.

The event concluded with a formal march-past and the presentation of certificates. The program reflects the province’s commitment to strengthening community policing and promoting peace.

This initiative enhances education, healthcare, businesses, and daily life. National Judge Residence

The National Judge’s residence in Mendi enhances the judiciary’s presence in Southern Highlands Province. Providing secure and convenient housing for judges ensures efficient judicial services, strengthens the rule of law, and promotes justice. This investment supports legal proceedings, improves accessibility to the courts, and upholds law and order in the province.

Mendi Airport Re-opened

The newly reopened K41 million Mendi Airport marks a milestone for Southern Highlands. After years of closure, flights have resumed, boosting connectivity and growth. Key upgrades enhance safety and access, linking Mendi to the region. This vital infrastructure promises economic progress and convenience for our communities
